A Band Of Brothers

It's a fascinating tale of comradeship that is, in the end, a tale of ordinary men who did extraordinary things. The story of "E" Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division from their initial training starting in 1942 to the end of World War II. Men who parachuted behind enemy lines in the early hours of D-Day in support of the landings at Utah beach, participated in the liberation of Carentan, and again parachuted into action during Operation Market Garden. They also liberated a concentration camp and were the first to enter Hitler's mountain retreat in Berchtesgarten. I am talking about the movie made in 2001, but what about the story 2,000 years ago? What about James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas as found in Matt. 13:55-56 or as they are listed in Mark 6:3: James, Joses, Simon, and Judas. Of course Jesus also had sisters, but this is about the BOYZ! They were REAL brothers, not bretheran, no step brothers, nor any of those other made up ideas to keep the virgin Mary story alive. Have you ever wondered why only Matthew and Luke mention such a story? Why not Mark, or John, or the earliest writer- Paul? This tight knit family did all they could to extend the Jewish Jesus Kingdom; however, they had a very limited view of the bigger Kingdom. Jesus wasn't talking about a Jewish Kingdom, a church centered in Jerusalem, nor a church of ANY LIMITATIONS. Unfortunately James didn't understand. James did a good job of holding the Jerusalem church together as long as he could, but he ran afoul of Paul who had bigger ideas. Maybe Thomas did get it or at least he seemed to! Thomas? Who is Thomas? The Gospel of Thomas that almost made it in the final canon was the twin brother of Jesus. Now we've really gone heretical haven't we? Ah, but why then was it understood that Judas (Jude) Didymous Thomas, was the "Judas brother"? Why were there so many Josephs, Marys, and so forth? Who knows? What we do know is that the BIBLE says that Jesus had FOUR brothers (nuclear family types) and I love seeing how James (The Just) tried to carry the mantle for his brother; however, he was no match for Paul.
